How does the ceiling that can stretch work?
You only need two parts to alter your ceiling.
What a simple yet revolutionary concept that reshaped the ceiling industry back in the 1970s! It all began with the vision of a French inventor who brought the first stretch ceiling to life. We owe a debt of gratitude to this innovative individual.
Fast forward more than five decades, and the core concept remains unchanged. It’s remarkable how a simple idea can stand the test of time and continue to transform ceilings in various settings.
Let’s delve a bit deeper into how this transformation occurs. It all starts with two essential components:
The Track, Profile, Frame, or Cornice: These terms refer to the same foundational element of the stretch ceiling system. The track, often called a profile or frame, is skillfully installed around the perimeter of the room, tracing the walls. It serves as the framework for the entire stretch ceiling structure.
The Membrane, Film, Fabric, or Vinyl: Similarly, these are interchangeable terms describing the same essential component of the stretch ceiling system. The membrane, which can be a film, fabric, or vinyl material, forms the visible surface of the ceiling.
The installation process is a precise and methodical one. The profile is meticulously leveled and secured along the room’s walls. What distinguishes this profile is the inclusion of a male interior harpoon receiver. Meanwhile, the membrane comes equipped with an external female hooking harpoon, thoughtfully factory-installed.
The magic happens when the installer carefully and expertly hangs the membrane’s harpoon onto the profile, employing a straight spatula to ensure a snug and secure fit. This seemingly simple step is the key to achieving the taut and flawless appearance that stretch ceilings are known for.
So, what started as a groundbreaking idea in the 1970s has evolved into a timeless and effective solution for transforming ceilings. The combination of the profile and membrane, carefully crafted and installed, continues to redefine the aesthetics and functionality of interior spaces, offering a sleek and versatile ceiling option for a wide range of applications.
